Sleep expectations (not perfection)
Sleep is rarely neat in the early months. Aim for safe, sustainable rest — not a perfect schedule.
General parent support only — not a diagnosis or treatment plan. For medical worries, contact your midwife, health visitor, GP, NHS 111, or emergency services.
Skim: safe sleep first · naps ≠ nights · rest when you can
Safe sleep comes before schedules
Follow current NHS safe-sleep guidance from your midwife or health visitor. An app can note when sleep started — it can’t replace how and where your baby sleeps.
Naps and nights are different chapters
Day sleep is often shorter and lighter. Night stretches lengthen slowly, unevenly. Log what helps you hand over care; ignore what adds pressure.
Permission to rest
If someone can take a shift, take it. Partner sync exists so you don’t reconstruct the night from memory when you’re already drained.
